THE KOVACS FOUNDATION
The effectiveness of most of the treatments
used on patients has not been scientifically proven. This
makes doctors' work even more difficult, it is harmful to
patients, and it unjustifiably increases health costs
The Kovacs Foundation was created
in 1986 to advocate health care based on scientific evidence.
To this end, it promotes the evaluation of medical procedures,
the application of those that are proven to be useful and
the withdrawal of all others from clinical practice. The end
goal is to guarantee the general public that the preventative
measures recommended are effective and to guarantee patients
that the health care they receive is appropriate, as well
as to ensure the sound use of health resources by selectively
eliminating the cost of ineffective procedures.
With this aim, the Kovacs Foundation carries
out programs in medical research, health care and the promotion
of public health. 142 entities, including research centers,
hospitals, universities and other public and private institutions
from 14 countries participate in these programs.
