OBJECTIVES AND GENERAL CRITERIA.
Objectives.
The medical research of the Foundation is focused on the evaluation of the medical procedures currently in use, and the development and assessment of new alternatives in order to promote the use of those procedures whose efficacy has been proven and to discontinue the use of those that are not efficacious.
Criteria.
The interest of the Foundation in a given research area depends on the social impact of its results, however, only the strict use of the scientific method gives quality to the study and validity to the outcome. This is why the Institution understands that that allocating resources to research that is not absolutely rigorous is a waste, regardless of its interest, since its limited reliability impedes applying the results.
Thus, two main criteria characterize the research conducted by the Kovacs Foundation:
- Scientific approach: The Foundation is constantly open to questioning the previous knowledge base and to study new approaches to solve any health related issue. However the Institution is specially strict in the development of the research necessary to evaluate its true usefulness. The organization and work structure of its Scientific Department are designed with this philosophy in mind.
-Social benefit: Instead of following the latest in health issues, the Foundation gives a clear priority to research on health problems according to three main criteria: Their frequency, the public cost involved and the absence of a satisfactory treatment.

The Kovacs Foundation designs and conducts its own research and supports clinical trials sponsored by other institutions, by providing scientific and/or hands on experience. The latter generates additional resources that the Institution devotes to its own research programs.
