CLINICAL PRACTICE GUIDELINES ON THE MANAGEMENT OF RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS

Title.

Development of a Guideline for Clinical Practice for Rheumatoid Arthritis in Spain.

Background.

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is a very debilitating and relatively common illness, handled in enormously different ways, for which until now no guide for clinical practice has been developed.

Objectives.

  1. To develop a set of guidelines for clinical practice in the management of RA in Spain under the auspices of the Spanish Society of Rheumatology (SER).

  2. To disseminate the guidelines developed among Spanish rheumatologists under the auspices of the SER.

  3. To assess the impact of the guidelines on the management of RA in Spain.

Methodology.

SeA set of guidelines for clinical practice was developed following the methodology proposed by the Institute of Medicine (IOM). According to this methodology, a synthesis of scientific evidence was made, recommendations based on the scientific evidence were developed, and they were organized into the format of a notated algorithm. The recommendations were elaborated by a multidisciplinary panel of experts.

Participants, along with the Foundation's Science Department.

Research Unit in Health Services, Spanish Rheumatology Society, Rheumatology Department of the Clínico Hospital of Madrid, Novartis.
