PHYSICIAN MOTIVATION
Title.
The Motivation of Physicians in Spain.
Background.
Health Services provide thousands of procedures
to millions of citizens. The quality, quantity and cost of
the procedures depend on numerous factors, among which the
doctor's motivation stands out.
Objective.
To describe physicans' motivations, their
perception of how the organization satisfies their motivations,
their kind of commitment to the organization and the dedication
of these professionals in their work.
Methodology.
This was a descriptive, cross-sectional study
made during a survey aimed at doctors in the provinces of
Madrid and Barcelona.
The doctors surveyed were professionals working in medical
care at a health care center. The sample was made up of 990
physicians (440 from Barcelona and 550 from Madrid), randomly
selected and representative of the body of doctors of the
study provinces.
The doctors were given a standardized, self-administered
questionnaire. The questionnaire gathered information about
the variables of study (motivational structure, compensatory
structure, commitment, dedication, individual characteristics
and characteristics of the center). Statistical calculations
were made of centralization and dispersion of the motivational
structure, the compensatory structure, commitment, and the
dedication of the sample of doctors, according to the characteristics
of the individual and the center. Studies of raw and adjusted
associations were made to identify the variables associated
with the motivational structure, the compensatory structure,
the commitment and dedication in the sample of doctors.
